The installation by Viruta Lab and Tile of Spain at Fuorisalone 2025 has stood out as one of the most remarkable proposals in this year’s edition of Milan Design Week. Titled The Light in the Darkness, it was presented in the courtyard of the Università degli Studi di Milano. This ephemeral installation transforms the space into a visual and emotional experience that invites reflection on darkness and light as symbols of transformation.

A proposal that unites design, emotion, and storytelling
The installation was promoted by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and ASCER (Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association), as part of the international brand Tile of Spain. Its main goal is to increase the visibility of Spanish ceramic design on a global stage. Moreover, the project highlights how ceramic materials can express deep emotions and complex ideas through spatial design.
The journey, designed by the Valencia-based studio Viruta Lab, begins in a dark space and gradually opens toward the light. This transition serves as a visual metaphor for personal and collective processes of overcoming adversity. In addition, the lighting and spatial composition reinforce a sense of evolution and hope.
Decocer contributes a ceramic totem with Volcano and Stratos
In this context, Decocer plays an active role with a central piece: a ceramic totem crafted using its Volcano and Stratos collections. This vertical sculpture brings texture, contrast, and a strong material presence to the experience. Furthermore, it naturally aligns with the conceptual message of the installation. The surfaces, tones, and finishes of both collections emphasize the contrast between darkness and light.

Spanish ceramics with an international vision
Decocer’s involvement not only showcases the value of ceramic design in artistic contexts. It also reaffirms the brand’s commitment to innovation and contemporary design. Fuorisalone 2025 has provided the ideal setting to demonstrate how ceramics can integrate into sensory narratives and emotionally resonant spaces.
This collaboration reflects our belief that ceramics are more than just a construction material. They can be art, message, and emotion—and above all, part of a story that connects with people.
